Laughter

The Seeker has observed with interest the phenomenon of laughter in human relationships, and he believes that a study of why he laughs may reveal an element of chief feature.

His skirmish with objectivity will prove valuable in analyzing this common spontaneous reaction, especially when he notices that the same happening stimulates laughter in some and sorrow in others.

Its mechanicality places it within the Holy Denying Force to which his affirmation may begin with recognizing the subjective way with which laughter is usually considered justified.

He will not suppress spontaneous laughter in any way but will try to observe and record what he laughs at, why, and whether it falls on the positive or negative side of his emotional range.

The Seeker has tentatively arranged various types of laughter in the following complementary categories: laughter of amusement and laughter at another’s discomfiture; laughter of merriment and laughter at another’s frailties; laughter at something incongruous and laughter at another’s beliefs; laughter at oneself and laughter because others are laughing; laughter at something sexy and laughter at race or religion; laughter of satisfaction and laughter at someone’s behavior; laughter of good will and laughter of ridicule.

Various degrees of laughter such as loud cachinnation, the chortle, the smirk, the simper, the belly laugh and the snicker will be included in his objective study.

The Seeker may also experience from time to time a deep inner laughter with its complement of essence remorse.

He will begin and end each day by repeating three times with deep inner laughter and three times with essence remorse the three independent forces of the Sacred Triamazikamno: (1) Surp-Otheos, (2) Surp-Skiros, (3) Surp-Athanotos.

For each force in turn he will at (1) face east arms outstretched palms together, at (2) face south arms lifted, at (3) face west arms crossed on breast.

In the course of his research, the Seeker may resort to sayings, cartoons, skits, and stories to illustrate any relationship between humor and laughter.
